This past weekend Camp Woodward held their second BMX reunion. I only got invited by association…as I am decidedly not an old BMX pro. But I have to say it was kind of a big deal if you are into this sort of thing. Camp Woodward is THE leading camp for action sports across the country. Their training facilities are unparalleled. I have never seen more foam pits or fearless individuals in one place.
The energy and excitement in the air really helped me get into the spirit of things, although the little baby bike is the only one I had enough nerve to climb on during the day. I mean, let’s be honest here, I wasn’t about to make that big of a fool of myself in front of all the pros. I haven’t been on a bike in a decade, let alone a fixie…did I even spell that right? (trying to be cool….but just coming off as lame)
But then I discovered the gymnasium….and I was 9 years old again for at least an hour. I had a blast jumping into foam pits, jumping on trampolines, swinging on uneven bars and jumping in more foam pits. By the end of the day I had giggled more than a junior high girl under the bleachers. And then it hit me…I’m NOT a 9 year old girl…I’m a 39 year old woman. Unfortunately..my body has reminded me of this every day since. I still can’t really lift my arms over my head.
All in though, I’d say it was a great day! Viva la Woodward!
