Join me for a little journey called “Tattoo Removal: Goodbye 23″. This is a tattoo I got roughly 10 years ago and although I have no real problem with its design or even execution I feel like its time to say farewell to this particular memory.
Last week I started the process of removing it via laser. I don’t intend to erase it entirely…but only enough to have it beautifully covered with something fresh and inspired. This photo is one week in…the bruising and swelling has gone down and the effects are subtle but still noticeable.
Let me start by saying that tattoo removal hurts. Its not like getting a tattoo, its like being burned by acid and getting electrocuted at the same time. When they stop hitting you with the laser, the burning continues for a solid hour. The recommend icing it on and off that first hour but they don’t even need to “suggest” this…you are reaching for the ice the second you are out the door.
I have to wait a full 6 weeks until treatment number 2. This is necessary so your body can naturally absorb the ink particles and remove them through your liver. My next appointment is Dec 22nd and I look forward to it like a eunuch looks forward to a whore house. But…I’ll keep you posted.
Farewell “23″…

Tattoo after Removal Session No. #3……and i’m done folks. Nothing quite matches the intense misery associated with this process. My tattoo guy is going to have to work with it the way it is.
Stay tuned for the cover up!
